Editorial Policy
EcoSahara: Journal of African Literature and the Environment is a peer-reviewed scholarly publication of the Nigeria Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment (NASLE), in association with Goldline and Jacobs Publishing, Glassboro, New Jersey. The journal focuses on ecocriticism in sub-Saharan Africa. It is founded on the conviction that ecological discourse is necessarily concentrative, as groups tend to focus on the peculiar aspects that pose challenges and anxieties to their niche. Ecosahara aspires to balance eco-dialogue by representing autochthonous African environmental discourse as a shade of green that is yet in full conversation with global ecocriticism. Thus, while the focus is on African living and writing experiences, comparative transatlantic studies are also welcome.
EcoSahara is published twice a year, Rains and Harmattan, to implant Nigeria’s natural round of seasons currently threatened by global industrial and human pollution, desertification and depletions of the ozone and cultural layers; as well as mega dis-eases like AIDS and cancer, and other forms of environmental distress and bioterrorism. To reflect mottled visions on shards and shades of green criticism, submissions based on multidisciplinary conversations of the environment with history, geography, politics, linguistics, economics, art, literature, food culture, architecture, biology, wildlife, film, religion, education, etc., are welcome.
Ecosahara accepts contributions from academics and activists interested in literature and the environment in Africa and the Diaspora. Submissions may include scholarly articles, review articles, film and book reviews, and reports. Manuscripts must be written in English and must not be more than 35 pages, clearly typed with Microsoft Word Times New Roman 12- point font size, and double-spaced with one-inch margin on all sides. Articles should include a maximum of 500 words abstract, and a biography of not more than three sentences specifying the full name, title, current affiliation, and phone /email details of author(s).
Authors are asked to strictly limit their use of underlining and bolding. Tables should be kept to a minimum and should be typed on separate sheets and their position indicated by a marginal note in the text. All tables should indicate their source(s) typed below the tables and submitted in grayscale (black and white) in .gif or .jpg format. Diagrams and photographs or 'Figures' as they are known generally, should be referred to as such in the manuscript and numbered consecutively. It is the responsibility of authors to perfect the copyright requirements of their submissions.
Manuscript Submission/ Documentation Style
EcoSahara uses the guidelines presented in the MLA, APA and Chicago manual styles. For the Chicago Style, all endnotes must be inserted and numbered automatically as generated by a word processor program such as Microsoft Word, and placed at the end of the documents Notes. For the MLA and APA styles Works Cited or Reference listing is required at the end of every paper. All submission must be in word document; PDF versions are not acceptable. The Editors and Editorial Board reserve the right to make minor changes to any manuscript to meet the mission, objectives and/or house style of the journal.
Submissions accepted for consideration will be evaluated anonymously by at least two external peer reviewers. Submissions for consideration must be original works and must not include works that are currently being reviewed by any other publication outlet. All manuscripts for consideration should be sent to The Editors via editors.ecosaharajournal@gmail.com.
